The Story Behind Our Name
Cavalli’s Husky & Wolfdog Rescue is named in honor of Cavalli, a beloved red-headed Husky whose impact on my life extended far beyond companionship.
Through her own challenges, including a lifelong battle with seizures, Cavalli remained a constant source of comfort, loyalty, and strength during some of the most difficult periods of my life.
More than just a pet, Cavalli embodied the resilience, devotion, and unconditional love that make these animals so extraordinary.
Today, her legacy lives on through every dog we help. Her name serves as a daily reminder of why this rescue exists: to provide safe, ethical, and compassionate second chances for Huskies and companion-bred Wolfdogs who need them most.
About the Founder

Hi, I’m Leah — founder of Cavalli’s Husky & Wolfdog Rescue.
Huskies have been part of my life for over 20 years, and my connection to wolves runs even deeper (yes… I was the kid howling on the playground). 🐺
Over the years, I’ve been involved in fostering, transport, rescue support, training, and advocacy, working with dogs ranging from family pets to those with complex behavioral needs.
Why Cavalli’s Rescue Was Created
Long before Cavalli’s Rescue existed, I was already deeply involved in animal rescue.
While living in Charlotte, North Carolina, I became a dedicated foster for puppies and high-needs dogs, helping breeds such as German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Pit Bulls, and mixed breeds find safe, successful placements. Over time, I also began taking on more challenging adult dogs who had often struggled in previous foster homes and needed additional structure, patience, and support.
Beyond fostering, I volunteered with multiple rescue organizations, assisted with cross-state transports, and worked alongside shelters, fosters, adopters, and rescue leaders throughout the rescue process.
Those experiences taught me a tremendous amount, but they also exposed me to challenges that were difficult to ignore.
I saw dogs placed into homes that weren’t the right fit. I saw fosters and volunteers burn out from a lack of support. I saw organizations with good intentions struggle because they lacked the systems needed to support both the animals and the people helping them.
Over time, I found myself asking the same question:
What would rescue look like if we did better for both the dogs and the people helping them?
That question ultimately led to the idea of creating my own rescue organization.
My original vision focused on Huskies; one of my lifelong passion breeds and a breed that frequently struggles to find appropriate placement due to its intelligence, energy level, and unique needs.
Then I met Nancy and the team at Full Moon Farm Wolfdog Sanctuary.
That experience opened my eyes to an even greater need.
I quickly learned how few safe, ethical placement options exist for companion-bred wolfdogs and how often these animals are surrendered, misunderstood, or euthanized simply because appropriate resources do not exist.
What began as a vision for a Husky rescue evolved into something larger.
Today, Cavalli’s Husky & Wolfdog Rescue exists to provide responsible, foster-based rescue, rehabilitation, placement assistance, education, and advocacy for both Huskies and companion-bred Wolfdogs, while remaining committed to supporting the people who dedicate their time, homes, and hearts to helping them.
How We Operate
Cavalli’s Husky & Wolfdog Rescue is a fully foster-based nonprofit, intentionally designed to provide the individualized, home-based care that Huskies and Wolfdogs need to succeed.
We are actively growing a network of trusted foster homes statewide, each meeting strict safety and containment requirements appropriate for high-intelligence, high-drive breeds.
Because we believe in responsible growth, our intake remains limited while we build the infrastructure needed to serve safely:
- Outdoor wolfdog-safe enclosures for decompression and behavioral assessment
- Funding for medical care, emergency treatment, and transport
- A robust statewide foster network
- Volunteer, community, and rescue partnerships
- Sustainable systems to support long-term rescue operations
Our founder’s private property serves as the rescue’s starting point, with secure enclosures in development for short-term decompression housing before dogs transition into long-term foster care.
In alignment with state regulations, each approved foster location — including the founder’s home — is limited in the number of animals it can house at one time. We currently focus on puppies and young adults and will expand to adults as more foster homes and safe outdoor spaces become available.
We believe ethical rescue is built on transparency, safety, and sustainability — and we are committed to growing with intention, not speed.
We are deeply grateful for every person who believes in our mission.
Together, we are building a safe, responsible network of second chances —
one paw, one person, and one life at a time.
Our Philosophy
At Cavalli’s Rescue, we believe quality of care matters more than quantity of intakes.
We are intentionally growing slowly, thoughtfully, and sustainably to ensure every dog receives the individualized support they deserve.
Our philosophy is built around:
- Real-home foster environments
- Individualized rehabilitation and enrichment
- Secure, ethical containment practices
- Lifelong commitment to every dog we place
- Education that reduces surrender and stigma
We believe ethical rescue is built on transparency, safety, accountability, and long-term sustainability.
